Oloton

Oloton is the second largest city in Kulpania, situated in the north-east of the country. The Wider Oloton Area contains thirteen towns, with Oloton in the centre being the largest. Each of these towns has a small say in decisions for the whole Area, but most of the Area's decisions are made by the Wider Oloton Council. The Council makes decisions on construction projects, land use, and public transport through its Transit Division. This is unlike most other cities in Kulpania, whose public transportation is run by private companies.

At the 2016 census, the Wider Oloton Area had a population of 2 497 816, with Oloton town containing 288 105. Oloton hosts the Wider Oloton Council; their headquarters being on Isfaq Lane. Colton-on-Sea, one of the thirteen towns in the Area, contains the headquarters of the Kulpania Coast Conservation Society, a group that works to maintain beaches and coastal areas across the country.

History

When Kulpania first became a unified nation, Olotontor stretched as far west as Castul. However, in 1382, residents of Castul staged an enormous uprising in the city, as they were unhappy that their county rule was so far away in Oloton. They also felt distinct from people in Oloton as residents in the west had their own dialect of Kulpan, giving themselves a unique identity. Queen Ilpid was forced to grant residents in the west of Olotontor their own county, as the uprisings were causing widespread damage and injury. The county was originally called Olotonitor, and contained Castul and Qústa. Upon a visit to Castul in 1412, King Ridet was met with another riot, and this time the residents of Olotonitor demanded that their county's name be changed. The King agreed to follow their demands, so the county changed its name to Nunnex.

Transport

All public transportation inside the Wider Oloton Area is operated by the Wider Oloton Council's Transit Division, with the exception of KulpanRail services. The Oloton Metro has fifty-one stations, which service twelve of the thirteen towns inside the Area. The system was initially opened in 2009 after having begun construction in 2006, at which point the network consisted of the Ring line (now the Outer Ring) and the Link line (now called the Horizontal line). The Inner Ring was opened three years later in 2012, causing the previous Ring line to be renamed to its current name, and the Link line was extended west from North Carlal to the centre of Carlal. The Vertical line opened in 2016 between Dorab and Oloton central rail station, and after the immense success of its opening, the Wider Oloton Council negotiated with KulpanRail to convert its heavy rail stations in the south of the city to support metro trains so that the Vertical line could make use of pre-existing tracks to extend its service. This conversion was completed one year later, and the last KulpanRail train ran to Kosban Way on 30 July 2017, being replaced by metro trains on the following day. The most recent addition to the Oloton Metro system was the extension from Kosban Way to the city's main airport via Old North Road, which opened in January 2020.

Despite Colton-on-Sea's lack of metro, it is still served by KulpanRail, with regular services into the city centre. These are operated by Dutell Trains, a franchise of KulpanRail, who also operate other heavy rail services in the city. Dutell Trains is currently constructing a new line from Oloton rail station through the west of the city to connect with their existing line to Qústa, which is planned to open in early 2022.

Oloton is also served by Kulpan highspeed, with direct trains being operated to most major cities on the mainland, including Dalow. Oloton South Airport hosts all air traffic going to and from the city, and as such there are many transport links between the city centre and the airport, including metro and KulpanRail.
